Video Editing

I have never done any video editing, but want to start. Especcially since we will be wheeling alot this year and want to video as much as possible.
I have apretty good Sony MiniDV camera, and just ordered a Firewire card and a DVD burner for my computer. I have lots of memory and plenty of harddrive space. My quesion, is do any of you know which video editing software is good, inexpensive and new-user friendly? If any of you have any software you like, that i can try out, that would be appreciated too.

if you have a mac available...i movie is the easiest to learn, and it is just as capable as the bigger more expensive programs.

for a PC i have used "pinnicle studio", and "final cut pro"

they are all good programs. if i had a mac available i would always use Imovie, other than that the other ones are good too, but are a lilttle more difficult

Window's Movie Maker is Free and real easy to use. You can add music picture and movies all in one file.

I use windows movie maker and I agree that it is pretty easy to use , and the free part isnt bad either . Theres not a ton of effects and transitions , but theres enough to make a decent looking movie .

I had tried Adobe and found it very difficult to use . I also tried Roxios software and it was better than the Adobe , but not as easy to use as the Windows Movie Maker .
